Chlorine tablets are by the most common thing that pool owners use in their pools to keep them safe and ready to be used at any time. The problem is that the manufacturers of chlorine products tell you that it is necessary to use chlorine, that the chlorine is good for the pool, and that it has many positive benefits. This is in fact a lie, because chlorine is neither good nor necessary.

There are other options out there when it comes to sanitizing your pool (options that work just as well if not better), so chlorine is definitely not necessary. That is in addition to the fact that chlorine is very dangerous to human health and very destructive for the environment. If you use chlorine in your pool, or swim in a pool with chlorine in it, then you may want to consider stopping all together.

Chlorine Irritates Everything

There are so many reasons why people should not use chlorine tablets in any swimming pool. The first reason that people may be all too familiar with is the fact that chlorine irritates the eyes. Large or even small amounts of chlorine in a swimming pool will cause eyes to dry out, become red and itchy, and even downright painful; chlorine burns. Not only that, but chlorine is also very irritable to other parts of the body, to the point where it can actually bleach hair and turn it a different color. Plus, chlorine is also very well known for causing swim suits to fade in color extremely fast.

Chlorine Is Poison

Chlorine is in fact also very dangerous, and not just in one way either. Chlorine is very dangerous to store and handle as the fumes are flammable and explosive, plus, chlorine is also very corrosive when handled directly. Furthermore, the ingestion or mass absorption of chlorine through the skin can cause severe reactions and even death. Scientific research has shown the inhalation of chlorine is very dangerous for the lungs, and has also been linked to cancer. There is a good reason as to why countries around the world have banned the use of chemical weapons such as chlorine gas.

Chlorine and Its Side Effects

Not only is chlorine very harmful to human health, it is also very bad for the environment and for your landscape. Chlorine in essence is a poison, which is why it is used to kill germs and bacteria in pools. Unfortunately chlorine also kills everything else—grass, shrubs, trees, and small animals too. In addition to these drawbacks and the fact that chlorine smells horrible, there are also several other negative aspects to the use of chlorine. It takes several other harmful chemicals to process the chlorine into chlorine tablets.
