Breast augmentation in Chicago, which is also called augmentation mammaplasty, is a common surgical procedure done to increase the size of the patient’s breasts. It can be strictly cosmetic or part of a breast reconstruction procedure. The surgeon will use implants.
What Can the Patient Expect?
The first step will be a consultation during which the patient will choose the size and type of implants. The surgeon will help them use 3D imaging to show them how they could look with a given set of implants. The patient can also use gel sizers to learn how different sizes could feel.
During the procedure, the surgeon may use any of three incisions: transaxillary (under the arm), periareolar (around the areola), or inframammary (below the breast fold). They may place the implant under the chest muscle or on top of it.
What Kinds of Implants Are Available?
Smooth round silicone implants are the most commonly used. They look and feel natural, and they can last a long time. The patient may also choose a brand of saline implant called the Ideal Implant. It has the same natural feel as silicone implants, and it is less likely rupture than other saline implants.
What Is the Recovery Like?
While most patients can return to work or their regular schedule within a week, they should avoid heavy lifting. The surgeon will give detailed post-operative instructions, and they will prescribe pain medications. The patient should wear a support bra for at least a month.
