An idler pulley is one of the most important parts of your vehicle. However, it is also a part that is rarely ever thought about until it starts to fail or go bad. Squealing Noises
one of the biggest signs of a failing pulley is a constant squealing noise. This noise usually indicates that the bearings have become worn and unusable. This means that the pulley will not be able to function smoothly. There is also the possibility that the surface of the pulley is no longer smooth which can present another set of problems.
Frozen In Place
Occasionally the pulley will seem to be stuck in place. This is referred to as a frozen idler pulley. The pulley will simply refuse to move. This can be due to bad bearings or excessive wear. No matter what the reason is the pulley will certainly need to be replaced with a new one.
Belt Travel
The pulley belt should travel unimpeded when the pulley is functioning correctly. When there are issues with the pulley, the belt will do what is known as “travel.” This can play great havoc with your engine and may eventually ruin it.
