If you are interested in purchasing bred cows for sale or dairy cows, there are several things you should know before making a purchase. You want to be sure that the cow has have received the right tests and vaccines before you make a purchase and have them moved to your property.

When looking at bred cows for sale, be sure they have been tested for tuberculosis. They should have had the test performed in the last month. If a cow has tuberculosis, it will be contagious. Tuberculosis can be passed to the soil through the cow’s stools. It takes around two months for tuberculosis to die in the soil. This means that other animals on the property can become infected.

Something else to check for is Johne’s disease. This is basically a form of Crohn’s disease in cows. It means the cow is not able to absorb minerals and will have diarrhea. This disease is contagious to other cows, and there is no cure for it.

When purchasing a dairy cow, you want to be sure that the milk has also been tested for E. coli and salmonella.
