In recent years, a very special kind of treat, known as a cupcake, has become one of the most popular and versatile desserts in existence. Bakeries devoted exclusively to cupcakes have sprung up everywhere. These cupcakes are veritable canvasses for the baker’s imagination, due to the almost unlimited number of ways in which they can be frosted, filled and decorated. One of the most widespread varieties of cupcake decoration is the sprinkle. Tiny confectionaries that are produced in several shapes and colors, cupcake sprinkles can be used all year round.

When To Use Sprinkles On Cupcakes

Sprinkles, also known as nonpareils or jimmies, are very tiny edible decorations. When they are sprinkled over the tops of cupcakes, they add a pop of color and visual appeal, as well as an extra layer of texture. While most sprinkles you see in stores are tiny rods or balls that are either chocolate or rainbow colored, for special occasions you can get cupcake sprinkles that are in unique shapes and colors. These include:

-Valentine’s Day – Sweet cupcakes are the perfect treat for this romantic holiday. Decorate them with pink, red and white sprinkles, or with sprinkles shaped like pretty hearts in red, white, pink or pastel colors.

-St. Patrick’s Day – Get ready to celebrate this Irish holiday by getting green and white sprinkles, or even sprinkles shaped like tiny green shamrocks!

-Easter – This springtime holiday is the perfect opportunity to decorate your cupcakes with pretty pastel sprinkles, or little Easter egg, bunny, chick, or butterfly shaped sprinkles!

-Halloween – This fun, spooky holiday is a highlight of the autumn season. Halloween sprinkles come in several appropriate colors, such as purple, orange, green, black and white. Fun shapes such as white ghosts, black bats, and autumn leaves are also available.
