To some pet owners, the very idea of spaying and neutering their beloved cat or dog sends shivers down their spines. As idealistic and noble as this may be, unless you are in the business of breeding, there is really no reason not to neuter them. A clinic that provides animal spay and neuter services is really providing a good service to the community at large, and it is always a good idea to have your local clinic perform the procedure as soon as possible unless you have a good reason not to.

Why Should My Pet Undergo This Procedure?

Though some pet owners think it cruel, there are a number of benefits to the animal spay and neuter procedure, including the following:

  • Community: The numbers of cats and dogs in the country without a home is enormous. At this very moment, there are millions of cats and dogs without homes, and of those, many will have to be euthanized because they will never find a home. One of the biggest reasons for this is unchecked breeding. By neutering your cat or dog, you are helping to control the animal population. You relieve the burden and reduce numbers so that the suffering stops.
  • Roaming: As much as cat lovers might like the idea of their cat roaming free, it can be harmful to native animals and can even be deadly for your cat if they end up injured or involved in an accident. Spaying or neutering them will reduce the chances of them roaming.
  • Psychological: Dogs and cats are not simply there for our amusement. They have inner lives, and part of this inner life is sexual. Can you imagine the stress a dog or cat may feel if they have not been spayed or neutered, but also have no chance to mate?

Loving Your Pet
