The use of specific chemicals in
products allows companies to completely change the properties of
objects. One of the chemicals commonly added to hard and brittle
objects is a plasticizer. Plasticizers are colorless and odorless
chemicals.
While commonly found in products like concrete
or PVC piping, business owners and inventors can take advantage of
plasticizers to transform their products. Learn about four
applications of how plasticizers are used.
Clay Products
Clay is often used in decor or houseware like plates and cups. On its own, clay can break apart and crumble into small pieces. When plasticizers are added to clay, the product becomes more durable.
Plasticizers aid in the manufacture of clay pots for gardens, statues, and art pieces for the home. Along with consumer use, the finished clay products become easier to transport and ship.
Toys
Toys need to be durable for a
reason. Kids are very rough with them. The use of plasticizers in the
production of both plastic and rubber toy components makes them more
durable.
For example, action figures need to be pliable.
When a plasticizer is added, the toys become more bendable and
flexible and in turn, prevents the object from snapping or cracking
at specific joints. Along with action figures, you can apply
plasticizers to dolls, toy cars, and rubber toys intended for
babies.
Clothing
Recycled plastic has become a major source for the production of clothing products like t-shirts. To help transform the plastic into a flexible fabric, plasticizers become one of the main resource options.
The clear chemical makes it easy to add to any shirt color. The chemical will not cause the colors to react, so any type of t-shirt product line can remain intact.
When mixed with plastic, the chemical helps create a soft feeling similar to shirts made with cotton. You can adjust the amounts toachieve varying levels of softness. For example, a thinner cut material may feel softer on the body and offer more flexibility.
Along with t-shirts, consider plasticizers for use in other clothing that need to have a level of stretch like underpants, leggings, and workout gear.
Bags
Similar to clothing, plasticizers are commonly found in handbags. Women’s handbags need durability and flexibility as they are carried around all day and filled with items. Just like clothes, bags may feature different colors and materials.
Along with handbags and purses, plasticizers help in the production of reusable shopping bags, gym bags, backpacks, and other travel bags. Plasticizers make bags easier to move and handle.
