Your first year of living in off-campus housing can be quite interesting. There are new rules to abide by as well as freedoms and responsibilities that you’ll have. One of those is maintaining your home so that it’s free of clutter and comfortable for studying and enjoying everyday life.

Extra Stuff

While living in Austin at off-campus housing, you might find that there are extra items that really don’t belong anywhere or that you have in your hands as soon as you walk through the door. You can put a table next to the door so that you have somewhere to place these items, such as mail or your keys. A shelf is a good idea as well if you’re able to use hardware to hang it on the wall.

Dishes

In order to keep dishes from piling up in the sink when you live in Austin off-campus housing, you want to try to wash everything you use after each meal. If there’s a dishwasher, then rinse the dishes and put them in the dishwasher as soon as possible instead of letting them sit so that food hardens. Disposable plates and utensils are an option if you don’t think that you’re going to have time to wash dishes due to your course load and activities.

Room Layout

When setting up your bedroom and bathroom, try to put items that belong together next to each other to make it easier to keep your areas clean. The laundry basket can go next to your closet or bathroom for dirty clothes. You can put a small trashcan in the bathroom as well as beside your desk and a counter in the kitchen so that you have somewhere to quickly dispose of trash.
