As the owner of a construction company, you must be ready to set up a job site regardless of the project’s location. Whether you are hired to erect a building in the city or for remote oilfield construction in Calgary, you must have the tools, manpower, and commitment to see the job through to the end.

With Canada experiencing an oil boom right now, you may want to bid on jobs that will require you to set up and work in oilfield construction in Calgary. You can prepare for these projects by understanding what they entail and what it takes to complete them successfully.

Precision Drilling

When your company has been hired for an oilfield project, you may oversee determining what location drilling will take place in. For this aspect of the job, you may need to bring in outside experts like geologists and hydrologists who can pinpoint the precise location of crude deep beneath the earth’s surface. Their input may be vital in ensuring you or the drilling crew will hit the mark the first time.

If you do not have your own geologists or hydrologists on staff, you may need to contract with those from local universities or excavation companies. You can subcontract with them during the first part of the project.

Pipeline Setup

Another part of your job may involve setting up some or all the oilfield’s pipeline. This job can be extensive and time consuming. It may take your company several weeks or months just to put in the primary section to get the crude from the oilfield to nearby tankers. If you have not already, you may need to invest in steel pipeline, cables, and other materials for the job.

Working in an oilfield can be a lucrative but in-depth job. You must be ready to set up regardless of the field’s location.
