Refinishing your terrazzo floors is one of the most important parts of getting your terrazzo floors looking great. Here are some tips to help you refinish your floors and keep them in tip-top shape:

Regular cleaning

It’s easy to get the dirt and dust off your floors. Regular cleaning is often enough to keep your floor looking good as new. However, make sure never to use wax when you work on the surface, says DoitYourself. Wax can make it too slippery and turn it into a slip-hazard for you and the rest of your family. Use neutral-based cleaning solutions or make one yourself. All you need is to mix a terrazzo floor cleaner with water and you’re good to go.

Strip the sealer

You’ll have to fully remove the sealer if you want a proper Terrazzo floor refinishing. This can take a long time. Don’t try to do this on your own if you don’t have the experience or tools to pull it off. Hire experts to make sure you get it right. You wouldn’t want to damage your floors beyond repair.

Sand and buff

If there is any damage below the sealer, you can easily eliminate these by buffing or sanding and the scratches will come off. Once that’s done, you’ll have to apply another two or three coats of resin until the floors are buffed and polished to a gleam.

Scrubbing materials

Abrasive tools will cause extensive damage to your terrazzo floors if would strip away the sealer. Keep in mind that terrazzo is extremely durable. It doesn’t need to be protected from wear, but from absorption. The moment the sealant is compromised, it’s going to let in oils and liquids. That’s going to lead to stubborn stains and discoloration. So toss away any abrasive cleaning materials and a soft, chamois cloth will do instead.

So keep these refinishing tips in mind the next time you need to get your terrazzo floors in shape.
