While many people think of J bolts specifically for construction and anchoring walls or other structures to concrete floors and slabs, there are other very important uses for these bolts as well.

Battery J bolts are used by many automobile manufacturers as well as for use in other types of vehicles and equipment that require the use of a battery. These particular J bolts tend to be longer and thinner in diameter with a flatter shape to the hook on the bottom of the bolt that will sit flush against the surface of the bottom of the battery box or the battery shelf in the vehicle.

The Benefits

There are several benefits to using battery J bolts to secure a battery in place. They are low-cost, they will last a lifetime of use, and they are also a simple option for removing or replacing the battery as needed.

To choose the correct size of J bolts for a battery simply measure the size of the battery in height as well as provide for enough additional room on the top to use a spanner and apply a nut. The spanner, which may also be called a plate, is the thin, flat piece of metal that goes across the battery at the top to provide a secure hold.

The hooks of the battery J bolts are fed through the holes in the battery box bottom or the battery shelf, providing a secure anchor. Tighten down the nuts on the top of the spanner just enough to securely hold the battery.

If required due to vibration or for additional security, lock nuts and washers can be used on top of the plate or spanner. The result is a secure battery that is easy to access and even easier to remove when charging or replacement is required.
