In any hospital setting, an essential component is an anesthesia system. It is a pre-requisite for medical facilities and clinics across the country. However, some situations cannot have a standard anesthesia machine. In fieldwork, in emergencies and other outdoor situations, a fixed system is simply not possible or even viable. Such circumstances demand a portable unit.

Portable Systems

In contrast to the traditional anesthesia machines, a portable system is mobile. These entities are ideal for field hospitals and other outdoor and emergency situations where standard equipment is simply not possible. The construction of portable units is such as to enable them to be packed up and transported with relative ease from location to location. Portable anesthesia systems:

  • Offer high portability
  • Are robust
  • Are light
  • Are simplistic in design
  • Provide the essential, but basic functions necessary for their purpose

A portable anesthesia system gives those who use it the valuable gift of convenience. It provides them with the advantages of setting up anytime, in any space – and anywhere when the need is of the essence. While we tend to think of medical procedures occurring safely only within a conventional hospital or other highly functional, this is not the case in many situations and throughout certain parts of the world. In all such instances, a medical professional may not have the luxury of relying on what North Americans and Europeans consider as standard equipment or facilities. This is where a portable or mobile system is welcome.

The Portable or Mobile Anesthesia System

While we are accustomed to thinking of an anesthesia system in a traditional hospital setting, this cannot always be the case. Many medical procedures must take place outside the confined spaces of an ER or operating theater. For these situations, a standard and a fixed system are not feasible or even functional. Fortunately, technology has made portable or mobile anesthesia systems possible.
