You may already be aware that the transmission of your car is one of its more essential parts. Transmission problems can make your vehicle entirely unusable. The reason is because the transmission is what directs power from your engine to the driveshaft to turn the wheels of your car. Knowing some of the common transmission issues and what to watch for can go a long way, so we’ll be offering some insight on that topic.

Solenoid Issues

The solenoid in your transmission is what controls the way the fluid flows through this component. Solenoids can become damaged or unusable due to electronic issues or insufficient levels of fluid. In many cases, the symptoms of this problem can be similar to those of having a transmission fluid leak. However, if you know no leaks are present but your transmission is slipping, the solenoid should be the next thing you look at.

Low Fluid Levels

The most common transmission issue is low fluid levels or leaks. Leaks can be caused by faulty seals in many locations on the transmission. In some cases, rectifying this problem may require replacing the transmission gasket or seals. These can be ordered from high-quality transmission parts suppliers. In other cases, the fluid in the transmission could become contaminated with radiator coolant. You may notice your transmission slipping if you encounter this problem.

Clutch Issues

Sometimes the clutch, located in the torque converter, will become jammed. This can lock your solenoid which makes it impossible for the transmission to operate properly. This can involve the same symptoms as low fluid levels. You may notice aggressive shaking if you come across this problem. It can also lead to high heat levels in the transmission and a drop in the power output from your engine.

Torque Converter Issues

There are a few problems that can be associated with the torque converter. The most common is damaged needle bearings. If these become worn, you may hear strange noises while driving that are not present when your vehicle is in neutral. It might sound like brushing or grinding.
