Custom-Built Shipping Crates?

This will become more expensive than using cardboard, but with wooden shipping crates, your goods will arrive intact and in perfect condition; the same as when they left your warehouse.
You may choose closed crates to ship your goods. This is where the crate is fully closed around your product with no openings left anywhere. The crate will probably be completed by being nailed closed.
Closed crates are suitable where you do not require ventilation, or you are shipping goods that may spill. The advantage of using closed crates is that in the event of an accident, the damage is likely to stay inside the crate and not cause further damage elsewhere.
Framed crates provide support, but not as much protection, whereas open crates are usually made from wood planks and not from plywood. After constructing the frame, the planks are attached, usually, by nails and because of this construction method, there are gaps between the planks which allows for air to circulate.
Fruit and vegetables are often transported in open crates because the air and ventilation stop the food from sweating and becoming unusable during the transportation period.
You will also find wire bound crates which are manufactured with smaller pieces of wood and held together using a wire or banding that provides the strength and support. Corners are often added to wire bound crates to provide more strength.
